Shop at the Port Townsend Farmers Market

Saturday Farmers Market

Featured in The Seattle Times as “Farmers markets: five worth the drive,” the Saturday market in Uptown Port Townsend is not  to be missed. The market boasts fresh, local fruit and vegetables along with arts/crafts and plenty of food. Check out an excerpt from the article below and take their advice on the cheese stick from Pane d’Amore, it is a personal favorite of mine. Only three blocks from the Blue Gull Inn.

 Port Townsend Farmers Market

620 Tyler St., in Uptown Port Townsend.

Hours: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays, April-December. (Also 3-6 p.m., Wednesdays, June 20 through September; and in Chimacum, Jefferson County, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays, May 20 through October.) See www.ptfarmersmarket.org.

Drive time from Seattle: About two hours, including a 30-minute ride aboard the Bainbridge Island ferry from Seattle’s Pier 52.

What’s special: With 70 vendors, including cider makers, bakers, farmers and artists, this market earned the “Market of the Year” designation from the Washington State Farmers Market Association in 2011.

What to eat: Don’t leave without buying a cheese stick from Pane d’Amore. The footlong snack is like an adult version of a licorice twist, easy to hold and whittle down in seconds. Worth bringing home are goats-milk cheeses from Mystery Bay Farm on Marrowstone Island, jars of kimchi from Midori Farm and pastries from Romanian baker Anca Hasson.

Making a day of it: Picnic on the beachfront at nearby Fort Worden State Park, or leave the car parked and walk to quiet Chetzemoka Park, with gardens and a kids’ play area. Save time for a stop at the Finnriver Farm & Cidery tasting room in Chimacum.

State of Real Estate 2012

No better time to buy real estate!

How is real estate doing in Port Townsend and Jefferson County?

We are located on the northwest corner of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.

Let us go back to the first hard hit states, Florida, Michigan, Nevada and Arizona. This information comes from the National Realtor Association. I had the opportunity to attend the annual National Realtor Conventions for the past several years. The real estate crisis has proven to be a 4 year cycle across the United States. Way longer than anyone originally thought, including my self. As a matter of fact, those first states (I mention above) have started to recover and even have had slight appreciation in prices during 2011.

Now for the Northwest, Seattle and Bellevue even as close as Kitsap County, have started to see multiple offers again and even some escalation clauses (addendum to beat highest offer). However, we have found our area to be 12-18 months behind King and Pierce Counties.

Jefferson County is about 2 -2 ½ years into the 4 year cycle. It hit us much later than Seattle. At one point I thought it would miss us, it did not.

My predictions for 2012:

  • Will see an increase in short sales and REO listing and sales, (Remax First has closed almost every short sale we have listed)
  • Prices will continue to decrease through 2012
  • Homes sales will increase in both Port Townsend and Jefferson County
  • Land sales will see a slight upturn this year
  • We are seeing lenders more willing to lend money

Overall, we look forward to a positive real estate market in 2012!
